From £1 to £744: Mickey Mouse Refractor Car Boot Sale Find Stuns Collectors

From Pokémon Cards to Disney Refractors: Hidden Gems Are Everywhere

Shane’s Mickey Mouse Refractor might be an incredible find, but stories of collectors discovering valuable trading cards in unexpected places are nothing new.

In fact, the Pokémon collecting community has been sharing stories like this for years.

From childhood collections rediscovered in the loft to old Pokémon cards picked up at car boot sales, charity shops and second-hand markets, collectors are constantly on the lookout for their next hidden gem.

Some of the most exciting discoveries involve cards that were originally purchased for very little, only for their collectable value to become apparent years later.

Think vintage Pokémon cards, early holographic releases, first-edition cards and sought-after promotional cards. What might look like an ordinary trading card to one person could be something a dedicated collector has spent years searching for.

Of course, not every old Pokémon card is valuable, and finding a genuinely rare card at a bargain price isn’t an everyday occurrence. But discoveries like Shane’s are a reminder of why so many collectors enjoy searching through forgotten collections and second-hand stalls.

And it’s not just Pokémon.

As Shane’s Topps Chrome Disney Mickey Mouse Refractor demonstrates, exciting finds can come from all corners of the trading card hobby, including Disney, sports cards, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic: The Gathering and other collectable card releases.

The key is knowing what to look for, recognising potentially interesting cards and taking the time to research them properly.

Whether you’ve discovered a vintage Pokémon holographic card in an old binder or picked up an unusual Disney Refractor for £1, you might be surprised by the interest your cards attract.

And when it comes to selling a special find, a specialist auction house such as Blooms Auction can offer a way to introduce it to interested collectors.
